TO MONTY…..who gave us so much

We came in to FOAL one summer's day, back in July 2002 Our Mum could no longer care for us, so it was the only thing to do. I came in with my brother George who's a braver soul than I He'd go out and say "hello", but I was rather shy. We'd been together all those years, they told us we were nine I hid myself within the house, nearly all the time The public came, the public went, they always passed us by "Too old!" they said "Large vet's bills" and weren't prepared to try. For some reason I don't understand, they mostly said "They're black!" So I'd curl right up and hide my head and snuggle at the back. One day our hope was turned to joy when a lady came along to see The "older black pair", and she took us home, to join the family. She already had four other cats and three dogs - I really wasn't sure! But despite the time it took to settle, we finally found our paws! We loved our home, we loved our life, our extended family And every night bar none, I had to come in and curl up on my Dad's knee. A year ago I was unwell so they took me to the vet Who diagnosed a failing heart, although I had a while yet. So from that time I had my pills to help me feel ok Administered with love and hugs, each and every day. Last Saturday I was not well, I had a turn, there was upset all around The time had come to say goodbye to the family I had found. I am now at peace, I'm in no pain and I'm looking down on them And thank them from the bottom of my heart for the chance they gave us then. They loved us both so very much, they loved me when I was in pain And brother George is still with them until we meet again. We may not have that striking look, that lovely coloured coat But us "Black Cats" have a great big heart and look to you in hope….. So, from me up here to you down there, I ask you to befriend That "Plain Old Black Cat" sitting there who will love you to the end.
