In Memory
Losing a cat, like any other bereavement, is a painful experience. Sometimes it is made worse by having to make the agonising decision that the end has come but at least we are kinder to our animals than we are to people, we can spare them suffering and allow them a peaceful passing. If you are in this position read If it should be.
For many people their cat has been a friend and companion for years, in many instances their unconditional affection outlives human relationships and they share the highs and lows of our lives just by being there. The poem Another Room may help you come to terms with your feelings.
It is natural to grieve their passing yet many feel guilty at the emotions they feel at such a time and for some it can result in depression and physical illness. If it helps you are welcome to tell us about the cat you have lost. Send us pictures and share your memories by e-mail or by post, hopefully you will find comfort in knowing that your words are being read by those who understand how you feel and sympathise with what you are going through.
We would particularly like to hear about any poems or words that have helped you through the grief of losing a loved one, be it human or animal, please send your favourites to Jan
Perhaps you would like to make a donation to one of our appeals in their memory, the Sub A Senior Fund ensures that the old and sick brought in to us are cared for until the end, either at the Farm or in foster homes.
Some feel that by having another cat they are in some way being disloyal to the one that has gone but if they have given you so much pleasure surely you owe it to their memory to take in some poor unwanted animal and give them a loving home. Read The Last Will and Testament of a Cat and, when you feel you are ready, visit our Desperate or Special Needs cats pages and see if there is one featured that you could help.
If you are in your twilight years you may be concerned about what will become of your cat when your time comes. Animals adopted from FOAL will always have a home with us but other organisations may be able to help make provision for your other pets. Please contact Jan to discuss.
If you can afford it we would appreciate a donation to our funds in order that we can continue our vital work helping unwanted animals.
