Mushu looks very settled in his new home, he wrote to us telling us of his new name - Alfie.
Generally it is better to keep cats in at night as this is when they are likely to get into fights and also when the majority of road traffic accidents occur!

I have settled in very well! I have been very naughty and get into fights and once I had to stay at the vets for 2 hours with a big hole in my side! I get lots of treats and they are Yum Yum! I love going exploring in the woods at the back of my house. I go out at night and one morning my owners had a surprise, I had brought home a MOUSE! - they didn't mind, I felt very proud.
Love Alfie

Another of our special cases, you will have read about Magic as Barbados. She was a very frightened cat who we put with Willow for company - and they loved each other!
These two lucky girls have gone to live on a stud farm so have plenty of space to roam in safety as well as lots of company if they want it. It is great to hear how well they are progressing in such a short time!
I am pleased to send you an update on Willow and Magic (Barbados). Willow has continued to be as happy as ever, loving all all the attention and being a real lap cat although she does go out a bit. Magic has really come out of herself in the last week and loves being played with, her confidence has grown huge amounts in the last couple of days. She loves going outside and spends ages exploring - being on a farm there are plenty of places for her to investigate!

These two had been abandoned at the bottom of the drive but it sounds as if they have really fallen on their paws!
Flower & Cherub went to their new home last November and their new owners write 'it seems like they have been here all my life. They always like a cuddle! Whenever we come home from school and work they meow and rub their heads against our legs. They will come up to you when you are sitting on the sofa and sometimes sit on your lap. Flower loves to sleep and is always as close to the radiator as she can get. At first Cherub was scared but now she sits on the sofa near the radiator.

He was a real favourite of Debbie, the FIB manager - she likes the 'big and beautiful' cats!
In general we recommend that new cats are kept indoors for at least 2 weeks. If the cats are very nervous then it should be longer. It is better that the first expedition is controlled so don't feed him on the day allotted - he won't go far if dinner is soon to be served! It is a heart stopping time though - he is free to go, but most cats are sensible and stay near the warmth and the food!
Clare wrote to tell us that Mike has settled in really well. I've taken a few pictures with my phone which I've attached. I wanted to ask your advice about letting him out. We were told to keep him in for 4 weeks but he's going a bit crazy and sits by the cat flat wailing. Do you think it would be too early to let him out after only 2 weeks? We feel really sorry for him because he's obviously desperate to go out. He keeps staring out of the windows and meowing. He's also started to get a bit vicious. I'd be really grateful for if you could let me know what you think.
4 weeks is a bit excessive for a confident cat who has been used to going outside, the frustration at not being able to defend territory can lead to behaviour changes! All ended well, Mike was allowed to go out and became a happy cat once more!
Jo wrote to us to say;
Lucy is getting on famously and holds her own with the neighbouring cats! She's much more affectionate now after being quite timid for a long time.
Fortunately this often happens when a timid cat feels safe and secure in a new home. It is as if they need their trust to be rebuilt before they can trust people again.
