Shaggy was brought in infested with maggots after eggs had been laid under his matted coat! He had to be shaved to clear them and in addition he was found to have a nasal deformity which resulted in very heavy breathing. This meant he needed a very special home - and found one! Thank you for taking him in!
Shaggy has gone to live with Sooty, Fluff and Delilah (see below) and his new owners have let us know how he is settling in:
He is absolutely gorgeous with such a good nature! It is incredible that, having got into such a dreadful state and being so close to death, he's still so gentle & trusting with people. He's doing his best to eat and regain his strength, and he's also trying to clean himself - which we're very pleased about! Sooty & Fluff now feel so much at home that they are acting like two grumpy old men hissing at Shaggy - 'allies in adversity' - even sleeping together on the sofa which was unheard of before! Shaggy doesn't seem to care about any of this, and just seems so happy and grateful to be alive. (Delilah isn't bothered as long the food is of a high enough standard!). We're doing our best to positively reinforce the fact that they're all loved equally and that no-one is being replaced - a process that tends to involve chicken, and giving everyone loads of attention! I know it's early days with Shaggy, but thank you so much for giving us the chance to share in his life.
Sooty, Fluff & Delilah went home as a threesome! Delilah had been returned to us once for being too timid and hiding all the time - she is obviously feeling much more secure in her new home! As their owners explained: Sooty is patiently explaining why he would really rather sleep in our bed rather than with the other cats, and he can't quite work out why we're too stupid not to understand! Fluff and Delilah were taking a more relaxed view of the whole proceedings. As you can see they are settling in well. Sooty loves human contact and wants to be with us all the time, whereas Delilah does want to be stroked, but on her own terms! They are spending their time between two sofas - with Delilah sleeping with either Sooty on one or Fluff on the other! Sadly Fluff is a little jealous of Sooty since he wants all the attention and is shyer that Sooty, but hopefully time and patience will sort that out. The improvement in them each day is so noticeable - we're just letting them take it gently. I'm so pleased that we're able to share in their lives and I think that we're all getting so much out of the experience.
