Cats For Homing
Thank you for considering offering a home to one (or more!) of our cats
Please consider the type of home that you have and make sure that you choose an animal that will be happy with you - the following points may guide you to the most suitable cat for you.
If you have a busy household with lots of young people coming and going it would not be appropriate to take a very timid cat nor an elderly cat that has been used to a quiet home.
If you have very young children a kitten is not the best choice as they have very sharp claws and the child will inevitably be scratched and be put off cats for life. Rather choose an older cat that has been used to children and will put up with fur being stroked the wrong way etc. and will walk away when they have had enough.
It is vital that your children are taught to treat animals properly
If you are an adult only household and have patience please consider taking one of our more timid residents who require their trust to be rebuilt over a period of time.
If you are elderly please consider taking an older cat as they have often been used to being with an adoring owner and are very depressed when they are left alone. Yes, it's hard when you lose them but it is much harder for a cat to lose you - and the pleasure that you get from knowing that you have given an animal a loving home for its last days is immeasureable!
Recently we have had some problems with people querying the adoption fees we charge. Please bear in mind that all our cats have been neutered ( £30-£50), vaccinated (£25 per vaccination) and microchipped (£15) - all costs that we have to bear whether or not the cat is subsequently adopted. This means that all our cats will have have incurred veterinary costs of at least £40 and on top of that there will be flea/worming treatment with many cats needing dentals or other expensive procedures. There is also the matter of board & lodgings so with an average adoption fee of £65, for an adult cat under 5yr, there is very little profit towards the expense of running the Farm - our veterinary expenses alone amount to £1000 per month! The older the cat, the less the fee and in 'special needs' cases there is no set amount. We do encourage people to adopt 2 cats so there is a discount for the 2nd. Contact Foal if you require more detailed information on a particular cat.
Our cat pages are divided into five sections :
'Special Needs' are cats that unfortunately have either temperament or chronic health problems. These may vary in seriousness but if they require ongoing treatment it can be funded by FOAL. Most of them just need lots of patience to give them security and relieve their stress. 'Desperate cats' are those that for some reason require a special type of home and have hence been with us for longer than we would like. 'Older Cats' are of more advanced years than perhaps the average adopter would prefer. For information about the pleasures of owning older cats click here. 'Getting Desperate' gives details of the remainder (although some may also appear in 'Older Cats') 'Off-site cats' shows a selection of cats that have been rescued by other organisations who have asked us to help in finding new homes. These pages are updated each week but it is possible that some may have been rehomed in the intervening period. Please study them carefully and contact the Farm if you require any further information so that we can ensure that you find the perfect pet for you!
